I’m in Flow with Fear or Anxiety. What Next?
When you want to go to the next level
Congratulations
Flow is intimacy with all things. If you’re there with fear, anything else can follow
Given our cultural norms and what’s taught about emotions, especially when it comes to fear, it’s rare but not impossible to find someone who’s in flow with it.
I’m Kristen Ulmer, and I felt it, same as you, during my ski career. Not always, but enough that it had a monumental effect on my performance.
Other moments in my life I also felt it, not just with fear but all emotions and states. These moments where hands down, my favorite lifetime experiences.
The reason why is: Emotions flow like water through your system, providing for you aliveness, motivation, presence and so much more. Feeling and expressing them–the good and the bad– is one of the most magnificent experiences we have on earth. After all, what are we alive for, if not to feel and express what we feel?
Congratulations then. Now, let’s explore the next level of what’s possible.
What Next?
There are many next steps to choose from. You can:
enhance the perks that come from fear: aliveness, motivation, intuition, energy, presence and more
learn how to use fear to get in the ‘zone’ anytime you like
take steps to get in flow with other emotions as well, such as anger, sadness, joy or eroticism
learn how to be in flow with not just emotions, but with all that life has to offer
use flow (intimacy with all things), to enhance sports or career performance in specific, targeted ways
use that intimacy with all things, to enhance vulnerability and connection with your partner, children, parents or friends
enhance physical intelligence next; the wisdom of your body
enhance spiritual intelligence next; the wisdom of your bigger self, that is likely trying to get your attention
access the wisdom and advice from even higher forms of intelligence, beyond the personal
connect the dots, by combining mental, emotional, physical and spiritual intelligence into a cohesive ‘systems intelligence’
explore the paradox found in the ‘fearless’ you. Is it real, or are you just really good at ignoring fear?
get to know the path of the human being, to see where you are in this journey, and what comes next
make sure you stay connected to all states that show up, no matter what life throws at you
” If you’re intimate with one of your emotions, even for a moment, it’s not a big step to also be intimate with all that life has to offer. Let’s make sure that happens. “
– Kristen Ulmer
How to Make Your Next Transition
Becoming Your Best Self is a Process
Did you know, that while I may have been the best in the world at a very difficult sport for over a decade, I was not proud of who I was as a person during those years?
Of course by showing up, growing up, waking up and taking right action, step by step if you do some personal work you get better at life. Like me, maybe you arrive to a place where you feel good about who you are, and authentically yourself. Maybe you also, simultaneously, become aware of your ongoing delusion, in that you think you’ve figured anything out, yet (wink). This mountain we’re all climbing, after all, has no summit.
Can you relate?
If yes, consider this: a mentor is someone who’s taken a few steps further along your same path. I’ve had great mentors before, and I’m one now. So, if anything in that list above speaks to you and you’d like help getting there, faster; in the spirit of mentor-ship join hands with me today, and read on.
The next step I’ve found, never begins with advice, but only great questions.
I’ve found that asking yourself the right question at the right time, becomes the very thing that leads to new curiosities and yearnings, triggering you to move up the mountain.
Given this, I recommend my 100 Questions to Being in Flow with Your Emotions, as being key to jump-starting your next remarkable transition.
